Boeing Sells Jeppesen Navigation Unit for $10.55 Billion

Boeing has agreed to sell its Digital Aviation Solutions business, including navigation unit Jeppesen, to private equity firm Thoma Bravo for $10.55 billion. The deal is part of CEO Kelly Ortberg’s plan to reduce the company’s debt by offloading non-core assets.

Jeppesen, which was acquired by Boeing in 2000 for $1.5 billion, attracted interest from several private equity firms and an aerospace supplier. The final bid valued Jeppesen at over $8 billion, surpassing Boeing’s initial target of $6 billion.

Thoma Bravo won the auction, edging out rival buyout firms such as TPG, Advent, and Veritas. The deal is considered one of the largest carve-out transactions in recent years, with Ball Corp selling its aerospace assets to BAE Systems for about $5.6 billion in 2023.

About 3,900 employees work at Jeppesen, which will remain a core part of Boeing’s business after the sale. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2025 and marks another step by Boeing to reduce its debt pile.
