The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the cusp of finalizing their plans to acquire young talent for their roster ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. General Manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin are pleased with the options available to them, having evaluated six picks.
The team will start the draft with the 21st overall pick in the first round, followed by third-round, fourth-round, fifth-round, sixth-round, and seventh-round selections. They do not have a second-round pick due to a trade with Seattle for wide receiver DK Metcalf and a sixth-round pick.
Acquiring a quarterback of the future has been a focus of the offseason, but the team’s plans remain uncertain. While they are in contact with veteran free agent Aaron Rodgers, they will assess their draft picks to determine if they need to acquire a starter at that position or elsewhere.
Tomlin emphasized that what happens in the draft may impact other talent acquisitions, adding that it’s essential to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances.
The Steelers have been thorough in their research, bringing four quarterbacks to Pittsburgh for pre-draft visits and attending pro days of several others. Their focus on running back and defensive line positions reflects the depth available at those spots.
Khan acknowledged that trading back might not be a realistic option due to the lack of a second-round pick, but emphasized that they will stick with their draft plan if it’s the right fit for the team.
With the draft approaching, the Steelers are almost complete in their preparations. Once the draft is over, they will focus on preparing for the 2025 season.
