Language learning app Duolingo is expanding its curriculum by adding chess lessons, targeting beginners to boost interest in the game. The new feature will initially be available in beta on iOS and later in Android, with plans to include multiple languages.
Duolingo’s chess course will cater to beginner and medium players, offering lessons tailored to users’ skill levels. Newcomers will learn how each piece moves, while more experienced users will engage in mini-puzzles against Duolingo’s character Oscar. As users progress, full games with adjustable difficulty will be introduced.
The app will provide hints for students, guiding them through the learning process. However, it won’t indicate when a move is incorrect, leaving room for exploration and learning from mistakes. This feature will be rolled out in mid-May, with plans to include additional languages and platforms in future updates.
