AI Pioneer Demis Hassabis Predicts End of Diseases

Google DeepMind co-founder and CEO Demis Hassabis has made a bold prediction that new AI models could not only help cure diseases but also lead to the end of all diseases. In an interview with CBS’ 60 Minutes, Hassabis stated that current AI can design drugs in just months, rather than years, and even complete a year’s worth of PhD research in one year by mapping 200 million protein structures.

Hassabis believes that this technology has the potential to revolutionize human health and cure all diseases within the next decade. His statement was met with support from rival Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas, who called him a “genius” and expressed his willingness to give him unlimited resources to make this happen.

The prediction comes as Perplexity AI, which competes directly with Google, is planning to launch a new agentic browser to challenge the dominance of Google Chrome. Hassabis’s statement highlights the rapid progress being made in AI research and its potential impact on various fields, including medicine.
