Nico Iamaleava Transfer Creates Buzz Around UCLA Football Program

UCLA football coach DeShaun Foster is thrilled with the recent transfer of quarterback Nico Iamaleava, citing “a good buzz” around the program. The 6’6″ quarterback, who led Tennessee to the College Football Playoff as a redshirt freshman, was reportedly asking for more than $2 million in compensation, but UCLA’s offer was deemed “a success.” Foster believes Iamaleava will fit well with new offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri’s system, saying it won’t hinder his ability to quickly learn.

Foster also notes that the arrival of Nico brings stability, as his younger brother Madden is expected to join him at UCLA. The Bruins will now face competition among other quarterbacks on the team, including Robert McDaniel and Demarcus Davis, who will have opportunities to make their case for a starting spot.

While some critics view this move as replacing one transfer with another, Foster emphasizes that securing top talent has always been crucial for successful teams. He acknowledges his staff’s familiarity with Iamaleava from their high school days, which helped facilitate the transfer. The new quarterback’s desire to play closer to family and join a team with “bigger-than-usual crowds” at the Rose Bowl were also key factors in his decision.

With Nico Iamaleava now set to lead the Bruins into the upcoming season, Foster is confident that his team will be competitive. As the buzz builds around UCLA football, Foster asserts that his program is on the right path.
