He also criticized Hamas, calling them “sons of dogs.” This is not the first time Abbas has made such a demand, but it marks a significant shift in his approach since the start of the conflict.
It’s unclear whether Hamas will comply with Abbas’ demands, despite the potential benefits for ending the war and saving Palestinian lives. The PA and Hamas have been at odds for nearly two decades, with Israel also criticizing the PA’s “pay for slay” policy, which Abbas reformed in February.
