Turkey Hit by Series of Powerful Earthquakes

A series of powerful earthquakes struck near Istanbul, Turkey, causing widespread panic and prompting residents to evacuate apartment blocks. At 12:49 local time, a 6.2-magnitude quake hit the Sea of Marmara, triggering tremors in neighboring provinces and the city of Izmir.

The earthquake triggered scores of aftershocks, but so far, there have been no major damage reports. However, one building in Istanbul’s central Fatih district collapsed due to the panic caused by the quake.
