Nicklas Backstrom Lists DC Home for $14.995 Million

Hockey star Nicklas Backstrom has listed his McLean, Virginia home for sale at $14.995 million. The 37-year-old Swedish player purchased the seven-bedroom, 17,000-square-foot estate in 2021 for $8.5 million.

The modern home, designed by Skip Sroka, features a sparse decor with a focus on black and white accents, wood elements, and high-end finishes. Key amenities include a game room, media room, gym, bar, outdoor dining area, and a large backyard with a pool and spa.

Backstrom’s time on the market is seen as a shock by some fans, who believe his playing days may be numbered due to health concerns related to hip problems. The star forward has been with the Washington Capitals since 2007 but hasn’t played since 2023.

The listing comes after Backstrom celebrated a milestone for teammate Alex Ovechkin, who scored his record-breaking 895th goal recently. Backstrom was instrumental in Ovechkin’s achievement, providing assists on nearly a third of those goals.
