Netflix is set to conclude its beloved adaptation of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series “Heartstopper” with a feature film directed by Wash Westmoreland. The sixth installment, based on Oseman’s unpublished book, will wrap up the story of Nick and Charlie, played by Joe Locke and Kit Connor.
Connor will also executive produce alongside Locke, who is set to star in the film. Filming is scheduled for this summer, but a release date has not been confirmed. Olivia Colman, who plays Nick’s mother in the series, may also appear in the film.
The adaptation, which follows three seasons of the characters’ adventures, will conclude with the main couple facing challenges in their long-distance relationship as Nick prepares to attend university. The show has gained widespread acclaim for its sensitive portrayal of LGBTQ relationships and has become a staple on Netflix.
Although uncommon, concluding a series with a feature film is not unprecedented. Examples include the Wachowskis’ sci-fi drama “Sense8,” which was adapted into a film after cancellation, as well as films based on TV shows like “Timeless,” “CSI,” and “Deadwood.”
