Liverpool Edge Closer to Title Win as Arsenal Hold Palace

Liverpool moved closer to winning the Premier League title after a thrilling 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace at home. The result leaves Liverpool on 79 points from 33 games, just one point behind second-placed Arsenal who have 67 points from 34 games.

Arsenal’s lacklustre performance was overshadowed by a late twist in the game as substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a superb chipped finish over Arsenal keeper David Raya in the 83rd minute. The draw marked Arsenal’s 13th league draw of the season, allowing Liverpool to all but mathematically wrap up a record-equalling 20th English title.

Goals from Jakub Kiwior and Leandro Trossard looked like being enough for Arsenal, but Palace equalised with an Eberechi Eze volley. Eze took his goal brilliantly, connecting with Adam Wharton’s corner to bounce a volley in off the post past Raya.

The result has huge implications for both teams as they prepare for their upcoming games. Liverpool will face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and can seal the title with one point, while Arsenal have a Champions League semi-final game at home to Paris Saint-Germain next Tuesday.

As for Palace, the draw was a welcome surprise despite leaving key players Mateta and Ismaïla Sarr on the bench. The team will look to bounce back from this result in their upcoming FA Cup match against Aston Villa on Saturday.
