FDA Halts Milk Quality Testing Amid Staffing Cuts

The US Food and Drug Administration has suspended its quality control program that tests milk and dairy products due to a lab transfer. The FDA is working with states to protect the pasteurized milk supply while the program is transferred.

A pause in testing comes after Health and Human Services cut 10,000 jobs across agencies, including the FDA, CDC, and NIH. The disruption does not appear to be related to staffing, but some affected staff played a role in responding to bird flu outbreaks.

The FDA remains committed to food safety despite the change. State and federal labs continue to analyze food samples, ensuring the public’s milk supply remains protected.
