The 2025 NFL preseason kicks off with the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers facing off in the annual Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. The game is scheduled for July 31 at 8 p.m.
Both teams made significant playoff runs last season, with the Lions finishing 15-2 and the Chargers rounding out their regular season at 11-6. According to Pro Football Hall of Fame president Jim Porter, this matchup features two legitimate contenders vying for Super Bowl LX.
The game marks a rare opportunity for both teams to face each other early in the season, as they haven’t played in Canton since 1991 and 1994 respectively. The Lions have made three appearances in the game, while the Chargers have played twice.
