Stunning Solar Orbiter Image Reveals Corona Details

The European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA’s joint Solar Orbiter mission has delivered a new stunning image of the Sun and its corona. Launched in 2020, Solar Orbiter captures detailed data that has significantly impacted our understanding of solar wind.

The latest photo showcases spun-sugar-like particles caught in the magnetic field of the Sun’s atmosphere, dark filaments of cooler material weaving through active areas that emit solar flares.

Taken with the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager from a distance of 77 million km, this composite image consists of over 200 separate images. The EUI allows traditionally unobservable parts of the corona to be visible in photographs.

Solar Orbiter has consistently provided clear views of our closest star and even offered insights into Venus as it navigated towards its current position. For more information on the image, visit the ESA website.
