Google’s Gemini AI Lags Behind ChatGPT in User Count

Google’s AI chatbot Gemini has a significant lead in user count over its competitors, but still lags behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Meta AI. According to court documents, Gemini had 350 million monthly users as of March 2025, compared to Meta’s 500 million monthly users as of September 2024.

Google revealed these numbers during a US Justice Department hearing on antitrust claims against the company. The figures showed significant growth since October 2024, when Gemini had 9 million daily and 90 million monthly users.

In contrast, OpenAI’s ChatGPT reported over 400 million weekly active users. While Google’s user count is substantial, it appears to be behind its competitors in terms of adoption. However, the company may be counting integration into other products like Workspace apps and Gmail, which have a larger user base.

Google has made efforts to boost Gemini’s usage, such as offering free storage upgrades for college students. Despite this, Gemini remains lagging behind ChatGPT and Meta AI in terms of user count.
