India-Pakistan Tensions Rise After Deadly Kashmir Attack

India and Pakistan have raised tensions after a deadly attack in Kashmir claimed 26 lives. The attack, which targeted Indian tourists, has sparked outrage across the border. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to pursue those responsible “to the ends of the earth.” Pakistan’s deputy prime minister denied involvement, but both countries are taking measures to pressure each other.

India announced it would suspend a decades-old water treaty with Pakistan, citing Pakistan’s support for cross-border terrorism. In response, Pakistan banned Indian aircraft from its airspace and suspended trade with India. Both countries also reduced staff at their diplomatic missions.

The Indus Waters Treaty, which divides six major rivers between the two nations, is seen as crucial to Pakistan’s agriculture. Any attempt by India to stop or divert water would be considered an “act of war” by Pakistan.

Analysts warn that further escalations could lead to a region-wide conflict. However, some argue that both countries have room for cooperation and can approach the issue in a peaceful manner. The situation remains volatile as tensions continue to rise.
