50-Year-Old Man Diagnosed with Incurable Bladder Cancer After Misdiagnosis of UTI

Chris Cotton, a father of two from the English town of Sandbach, thought he had a urinary tract infection (UTI) until his 50th birthday when he was given a devastating diagnosis of incurable bladder cancer. Initially, antibiotics and cranberry juice helped alleviate symptoms, but repeated visits to the doctor revealed the true extent of the problem.

Cotton initially started experiencing frequent urination and pain while going to the bathroom in October 2022. He received antibiotics and some relief from his symptoms for a while. However, after a few months, the issue persisted, prompting him to visit his doctor again.

The subsequent diagnosis in January 2024 revealed that Cotton had invasive bladder cancer with the cancer having spread to his pelvic lymph nodes and a vessel near the bladder. This prognosis was bleak, and he described feeling like his world had changed overnight as he learned about cancer treatment options and faced difficult conversations with family and friends.

However, rather than give up, Cotton chose to channel his grief into action by joining a 56-mile charity bike ride in Glasgow to raise funds for UK cancer centers. He finds solace in cycling, which has helped him cope mentally and physically during this challenging time.
