Bolsonaro’s Health Worsens After Surgery, ICU Admission

Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro has deteriorated in health following a recent surgery, according to his medical team. The 62-year-old is currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the DF Star Hospital in Brasilia. His condition was described as “clinical deterioration” due to elevated blood pressure and worsening liver laboratory results.

Bolsonaro’s hospitalization comes after he experienced strong abdominal pains during an event with supporters ahead of his upcoming court trial. In March, Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled that Bolsonaro should face trial for alleged plot to overturn election results in 2022, a charge he denies.

The former president underwent surgery in January 2019 to remove a colostomy bag and has experienced intestinal complications since being stabbed in 2018. His latest hospitalization is the third time this year, following an intestinal blockage in 2022 and abdominal discomfort in Florida last month.

Bolsonaro’s team of doctors announced that he will continue with motor physiotherapy and measures to prevent venous thrombosis. The former president had posted on X a photo from his hospital bed expressing gratitude for support and prayers from fans.
