Microsoft has finally released its Windows Recall feature to the general public nearly a year after announcing its initial launch. Available only on select Copilot+ PCs, Recall continuously captures screenshots of everything done on the PC, storing and indexing them in a searchable database. This raises significant security and privacy concerns.
The long-awaited release comes after multiple delays, security criticism, and extensive testing within Microsoft’s Windows Insider beta program. Researchers found that the company addressed many of the initial concerns regarding Recall’s security features, but some issues persisted.
Notably, users can now opt-in to using Recall instead of being forced into it, allowing them to remove the feature if desired.
