Motorola Unveils AI-Powered Razr Flip Phones with Partnerships and Competitors

Motorola has launched new versions of its iconic Razr flip phone series, featuring artificial intelligence-powered features from various companies including Perplexity, Meta, Microsoft, and Google. The announcement comes as Google faces a federal lawsuit alleging monopolistic practices in the search market.

The new phones, set to launch on May 15, will include AI tools that analyze screen content for suggestions and summarize notifications. The Razr Ultra can also trigger its AI assistant by recognizing when a user is looking at it, rather than requiring a tap or voice command.

Perplexity’s AI app will be preinstalled on the phones, marking a potential shift in Google’s dominance over the AI industry. Meta’s Llama model and Microsoft’s Copilot assistant will also be integrated into the devices, while OpenAI technology is noticeably absent.

Motorola’s decision to partner with multiple AI providers is rare, but its CEO Aravind Srinivas said it’s a big day for the future of smartphones. The company aims to minimize the impact of tariffs and price positioning on consumers by utilizing its flexible supply chain.

The new phones are priced similarly to last year’s models, with the Razr Ultra costing $1,300. Motorola’s CEO Maria Jose Martin believes the partnerships will help reduce prices and improve consumer experience.
