Falcons Select Oklahoma Safety Billy Bowman Jr. 118th Overall Pick

The Atlanta Falcons have selected University of Oklahoma defensive back Billy Bowman Jr. with the No. 118 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. This move brings some competition to their safety room, which already features Jessie Bates III, Jordan Fuller, and DeMarcco Hellams.

Bowman’s skills make him a promising addition. He is a downhill player who excels at being physical against the run and quick to come up and support it. His high football IQ helps him anticipate coverage and be in the right place, despite his shorter arms. Bowman also has the potential to fill a box safety/nickel role, which he can execute with his fearlessness as a defender.

Expert opinions vary on Bowman’s strengths and weaknesses. Dane Brugler of The Athletic notes that while Bowman lacks size and strength, he excels in terms of football IQ, movement skills, and competitive urgency. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com highlights Bowman’s fluidity and athleticism but also notes his lack of stopping power as a tackler.

Bowman joins Xavier Watts, another college safety drafted by the Falcons, who was selected at No. 96 pick on Friday. The addition of Bowman increases competition in the safety room and will be interesting to watch as he develops with the team.
