The Cleveland Browns selected Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, defying predictions that he would be a first-round choice. As the son of NFL Hall of Fame returner Deion Sanders, Shedeur was considered one of the top quarterback candidates, but fell to fifth round due to uncertainty surrounding his performance. Despite this, he set a record 4,134 passing yards last year while playing for Colorado. Sanders will now join an already established quarterback roster, including Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted in the third round. The Browns’ starting quarterback Deshaun Watson is expected to miss the upcoming season due to an achilles tendon injury.
