The son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, 21-year-old Jax Ulbrich, admitted to making a prank call during the NFL draft and apologized on Instagram after it surfaced online. The incident involved leaking Shedeur Sanders’ private number, which led to several fake calls from impersonators.
Jax Ulbrich claimed he copied the phone number from his father’s open iPad while visiting his parents’ home and made a call to Sanders, who was waiting for his name to be called on Day 2 of the draft. The call allegedly told Sanders that the New Orleans Saints would take him with their next pick, but later.
In an Instagram post, Jax Ulbrich expressed remorse for his actions, saying they were “completely inexcusable” and “shameful.” He apologized to Sanders, saying he took away from his moment of celebration. The Falcons stated that Jeff Ulbrich was not aware of the data breach or prank call until after the fact.
Other NFL players who received prank calls before being drafted include New Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren and Buffalo Bills sixth-round pick Chase Lundt. However, it’s unclear if Jax Ulbrich was behind these calls as well.
The Falcons said they are reviewing their protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future. The team issued a statement apologizing to Sanders and his family for the incident.
