NASA’s HALO Module Arrives at Northrop Grumman Facility

NASA marks progress on its Gateway program by unveiling the primary structure of the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) module at Northrop Grumman’s facility in Gilbert, Arizona. The module will provide Artemis astronauts with a habitat for living, working, and conducting scientific research.

The 9,300-square-foot HALO module features essential systems including command and control, data handling, energy storage, power distribution, and thermal regulation. It was assembled by Thales Alenia Space in Turin, Italy, and is now undergoing final outfitting and verification testing.

HALO will enable communication between the Orion spacecraft, lunar landers, and visiting spacecraft using the ESA-provided Lunar Link system. Once installed, the components will undergo rigorous testing to ensure they can withstand harsh deep-space conditions.

In parallel, a powerful solar electric propulsion system is being assembled at Maxar Space Systems in Palo Alto, California. The Power and Propulsion Element is designed to propel the Gateway spacecraft using energy collected from solar panels converted into electricity.
