Human Rights Group Accuses Israel of Genocide in Gaza

Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip during its war with Hamas, citing deliberate attacks on Palestinians and vital infrastructure. The human rights group says Israel’s actions are intended to destroy Palestinians through a “slow, calculated death” by exposing them to food and medicine shortages.

Israel has rejected the allegations as antisemitic “blood libel,” challenging such claims at the International Court of Justice. The US has also pushed back against the genocide allegations, while other allies have accused Israel of violating international law.

The war in Gaza has killed over 44,500 people, with more than half believed to be civilians, mostly women and children. The United Nations says aid deliveries are often too dangerous due to Hamas militants stealing convoys, but Israel blames the lack of humanitarian aid on UN agencies.

Amnesty International is urging the US to press for an end to the war, citing Israel’s use of US-provided weapons as violating international humanitarian law. Experts warn that Gaza’s population faces famine and disease risks, especially in northern Gaza, which Israel has sealed off since launching a major military operation.
