Klopp Tribute as Liverpool Win Record-Breaking Title Under New Coach

Liverpool manager Arne Slot paid tribute to his predecessor Jurgen Klopp moments after winning the Premier League title, with a record-equalling 20th top-flight title. The Reds defeated Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield on Sunday.

Slot, who became the first Dutch coach to win the Premier League, said: “It feels great… I think he showed last season what a wonderful human being he is by introducing me.” Slot also praised the work done by Klopp and Pep Lijnders, saying it was outstanding. The team’s culture, work-rate, and quality were key factors in their success.

Slot’s predecessor had been instrumental in setting up Liverpool for this title win. “The fans were so supportive before and during the game… Even at 1-0 down you felt this team and the fans could get it over the line,” Slot said.

For Mohamed Salah, winning the Premier League is special. “It’s completely different [to the title in 2020]. The feeling is unbelievable.” Virgil van Dijk dedicated the triumph to the club’s supporters, while Andy Robertson became just the third Scotsman to win multiple Premier League titles.

The team is now looking forward to enjoying the next few weeks and defending their title. “First we are going to enjoy the last few games,” Slot said.
