Boeing to Relocate 737 Max Flights Amid China Trade Tensions

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg announced that the company may reassign some of its 737 Max aircraft destined for Chinese airlines due to the trade war with the US. The decision comes as China has stopped taking deliveries of Boeing planes, citing a tariff environment. A few 737 Max planes in China were flown back to the US.

Ortberg stated that jets intended for Chinese customers and aircraft planned for production later this year could be redirected to other customers. He expressed confidence in the market’s demand for the Max aircraft, saying, “There’s plenty of customers out there looking for the Max aircraft.” Boeing reported a narrower-than-expected loss and better-than-expected cash burn in its first quarter, with deliveries surging.

US President Donald Trump also hinted at a less confrontational approach to trade talks with China, stating that the current 145% tariff on Chinese imports is “very high” but will likely decrease substantially.
