Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu festival organisers expressed their grief on Sunday, describing the Filipino community as “heartbroken” and “collectively shattered” after a car ramming attack that killed 11 people.
The incident, which police have ruled out as terror-related, has left the community feeling numb, sad, and angry. RJ Aquino, an exhausted organiser, said the impact will be felt for a long time.
MLA Mable Elmore described the local community as resilient, assuring them it would “come together out of this catastrophe”. Authorities identified the suspect as a 30-year-old man with a significant history of mental health interactions.
