Fantasy RPGs Heat Up PC and Console Over Weekend Launches

The fantasy genre has seen an exciting surge in popularity over the weekend, with two highly anticipated games launching simultaneously on PC and console. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remaster and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 both kicked off their first weekend with impressive player counts.

Expedition 33, developed by Sandfall Interactive, has achieved remarkable success, selling over 1 million copies within its first three days of release. On Steam alone, the game reached a concurrent peak of 121,422 players, and its overall numbers are likely high due to its availability on multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Game Pass.

In comparison, Oblivion Remastered has also seen strong player numbers, with over 4 million sales reported just days after its release. The game’s Steam peak of 216,784 players is a testament to its enduring popularity.

Despite their similarities in the fantasy genre, both games offer unique experiences. Oblivion Remastered brings back the classic Elder Scrolls experience with enhanced features, but retains some key bugs. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, on the other hand, has received praise for its elegant art direction and action-packed gameplay.

Developer Sandfall Interactive was congratulated by Bethesda Game Studios after the release of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, with Ben Starr, who voices Verso in the game, speaking to GameSpot about the benefits of having both games launch at the same time.
