Mobile apps are more vulnerable than ever, with nearly one in five containing hardcoded encryption keys and nearly two-thirds using broken or weak encryption. According to NowSecure’s analysis of over half a million mobile applications, the vast majority have significant security weaknesses.
Developers often prioritize design and functionality over security, relying on third-party code providers and app stores to secure their software. However, this approach leaves apps open to attack, as attackers can download and reverse-engineer apps with ease.
Mobile platforms are relatively secure due to regular updates from Apple and Google, which patch vulnerabilities quickly and limit the lifespan of security issues. Nevertheless, developers must take advantage of built-in security controls and ensure they implement proper encryption and security measures.
The good news is that these issues are easily solvable with visibility and awareness. By understanding the problems and taking action, users can protect themselves against mobile app threats.
