A trial began Monday in Paris over the 2016 heist aimed at Kim Kardashian, which saw armed robbers tie up the media personality and steal millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry during Fashion Week. Ten people, nine men and a woman, face charges of robbery and kidnapping.
Nine defendants have acknowledged their participation or have been found with DNA evidence linking them to the crime. The alleged ringleader, Aomar Aït Khedache, is one of two who entered Kardashian’s apartment. His lawyer said his client will plead guilty, citing participation in the crime.
Kardashian has described being terrified and thinking she would be raped and killed during the robbery. She plans to testify in person on May 13, praising France’s justice system for treating her with respect. The trial is scheduled to run through May 23.
Five of the 10 defendants were present at the scene of the robbery. The “Granddad Robbers” are French nationals with long criminal records who used bicycles or on foot after stealing millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry, including Kardashian’s engagement ring.
