US President Donald Trump’s attempts to sway Canada’s election by threatening to annex the country have had little impact on the outcome. The Conservative Party, which Trump famously pushed down the political stairs, ultimately lost to the Liberal Party.
In January, the Conservatives held a 20-plus-point lead over the Liberals, with many Canadians expressing negative opinions about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s policies and performance. However, despite slow growth in business productivity and high levels of immigration, Trudeau’s administration managed to maintain its grip on power.
The issue of immigration was particularly contentious, as Trudeau increased targets without providing sufficient housing construction to accommodate new arrivals. This led to a surge in home values and rents, pricing young people out of major job centers. Ultimately, the Liberal Party held on to power, defying Trump’s attempts to influence the outcome of Canada’s election.
