Vehicle Ramming Attacks Claim Hundreds of Lives Globally

Vehicle ramming attacks have become increasingly deadly, claiming hundreds of lives worldwide in recent years. Inspired by extremist politics or driven by mental illness and misogyny, these attacks often reshape cities and public spaces to prioritize safety.

Some notable incidents include the 2025 attack in Vancouver, where an Audi SUV crashed into a crowd at a festival, killing 11 people and injuring dozens. In New Orleans, a U.S. citizen rams a vehicle into a crowded French Quarter district, killing at least 15 people. A similar incident occurred in Magdeburg, Germany, where a car slams into a Christmas market, killing five.

The deadliest attack on record was in ZHUHAI, China, where a driver kills 35 people after becoming upset about his divorce. Authorities have charged suspects with multiple counts of murder and are imposing harsh penalties.

To prevent such attacks, cities worldwide have implemented safety measures, including concrete barriers around public spaces and anti-vehicle obstacles. Concrete blast barriers were added to New Orleans before the Super Bowl. These precautions serve as a reminder of the devastating consequences of vehicle ramming attacks and the need for continued vigilance in preventing them.
