Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Adds Iconic Artists to Roster

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its newest class of inductees, including Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Bad Company, Cyndi Lauper, and Outkast. The group joins a diverse list of artists that also includes The White Stripes, Soundgarden, and grunge bands Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

Checker’s classic hit “The Twist” is considered one of the most popular songs in rock ‘n’ roll history, while Cocker’s powerful voice and iconic cover of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” earned him critical acclaim. Bad Company’s enduring arena-rock staples like “Feel Like Makin’ Love” and “Can’t Get Enough” solidified their place in the Hall.

Cyndi Lauper rose to fame with hits like “Time After Time” and “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” while OutKast’s innovative blend of hip-hop and rock earned them numerous Grammy Awards. The White Stripes’ indie success was built on hits like “Seven Nation Army.”

The Ahmet Ertegun Award will be presented to industry professionals Lenny Waronker, who played a significant role in the careers of Prince, R.E.M., and Madonna.

Notable artists who were not selected this year include Mariah Carey, Phish, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, and Oasis. The induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this fall, marking the 40th anniversary of the Hall’s founding.
