ABC is developing a reboot of the hit sitcom Scrubs, with series creator Bill Lawrence working on the new version. The original cast, including Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, and John C. McGinley, are being targeted for a return.
Lawrence has an overall deal with Warner Bros TV but will be allowed to work separately at 20th Television to develop the Scrubs reboot. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying it would be “fun” to revisit the characters he created.
The original show ran on NBC and ABC for seven seasons, earning 17 Emmy nominations and two awards. Braff and Faison have also launched a podcast called Fake Doctors, Real Friends. The Scrubs reboot is not the first relaunch of a hit network sitcom from the same era, with The Office spin-off The Paper announced earlier this year.
