GM Recalls 721,000 SUVs and Trucks Worldwide Due to Engine Failure Risk

General Motors is recalling 721,000 vehicles worldwide, including nearly 600,000 in the US, due to potential engine failure issues that could lead to a crash or loss of power. The affected models include Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra, and Yukon.

The recall is related to manufacturing defects in the 6.2L V8 gas engines, which may cause damage or failure to the connecting rod and crankshaft components. In the US, there have been 12 crashes and 12 injuries reported that may be linked to the issue.

Dealers will inspect the engine and perform repairs or replacements as needed. For vehicles that pass inspection, they will receive a higher viscosity oil, a new oil fill cap, and an oil filter replacement.

This recall is part of a broader investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which has looked into reports of engine failures involving 877,710 GM vehicles with V8 engines.
