Jeff Sperbeck, a longtime agent and friend of John Elway, has died from injuries sustained in a golf cart crash in California. The 62-year-old was pronounced dead at Desert Regional Medical Center on Wednesday morning after falling off the golf cart driven by Elway.
According to TMZ, Elway was driving the golf cart when Sperbeck lost his balance and hit his head on asphalt. Elway was not charged with reckless driving, but an investigation is ongoing. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there were no signs of negligence from Elway.
Sperbeck began working with Elway in 1990 as his manager and has since helped hundreds of NFL players through multiple agencies. Some notable clients include Hall of Famers Ronnie Lott and Jim Plunkett. In addition, he co-founded 7Cellars with Elway in 2015, which produces premium wines from central California and Napa Valley.
Sperbeck’s legacy in the sports world is marked by his successful career as an NFL agent and his long-standing friendship with Elway, who won two Super Bowls during their time together. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
