Blizzard has announced a new feature in World of Warcraft that aims to simplify gameplay and make it more accessible to players. The Rotation Assist tool, coming with the 11.1.7 patch, will provide a single button rotation option that automatically uses the next optimal ability.
The tool is designed for accessibility purposes, catering to players who don’t want to learn their class or are not interested in high-level gameplay. It also aims to reduce pressure from groups and raid leaders on players to use specific add-ons to remain competitive.
Game director Ion Hazzikostas emphasized that the feature should be used naturally and not as a crutch for those struggling with optimal DPS rotation. Instead, it will allow players to focus on exploring Azeroth, experiencing the story, and enjoying the game without feeling overwhelmed by mechanics.
The announcement comes as part of Blizzard’s ongoing effort to integrate more features and capabilities into the base UI, previously relegated to third-party add-ons. The company is also considering adding a DPS meter, improving nameplates, and enhancing raid encounter information.
Blizzard’s philosophy on add-ons has shifted over time, with a focus on making the game more accessible and reducing pressure from competition. The Rotation Assist tool is just one part of this effort, aiming to make WoW an enjoyable experience for all players without sacrificing performance or realism.
