Miriam “Mimi” Haley, a former production assistant on Project Runway, tearfully recalled the moment she realized she was being raped by Harvey Weinstein during an alleged assault at his SoHo apartment two decades ago.
Haley, 48, testified that Weinstein, who is accused of raping 80 women, forcibly tried to kiss her and ignored her protests as they sat on his sofa in July 2006. She said he eventually grabbed her, forcing her into a dark bedroom where he allegedly performed oral sex on her.
The alleged assault occurred when Haley was about 29 years old and Weinstein picked her up from her apartment with a driver. After the incident, Haley made a calculated decision to let it happen, realizing she wouldn’t be able to fight him off.
Haley’s testimony was similar to her previous accounts of the alleged abuse, but she revealed some new details, including that Weinstein asked her “Don’t you think we’re much closer now?” after one encounter. She also explained that she had sex with him once without force, which Weinstein’s lawyers previously claimed was a sign of consent.
Haley changed her last name from Haleyi to Haley for work and personal reasons, citing that it would have been difficult to find work under the previous name due to numerous Google results linking to the 2020 trial.
Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted at this retrial on the top count.
