Guy Ritchie has signed on to direct the sequel to Amazon MGM Studios’ hit action movie Road House, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Will Beall is writing the script for the 2024 remake.
Gyllenhaal reprises his role as Dalton, a former UFC fighter turned bouncer at a Florida Keys bar. The film will be produced by Josh McLaughlin and Charles Roven through their Nine Stories Productions banner, alongside Alex Gartner of Altas Entertainment.
Ritchie is considered a suitable replacement for Doug Liman, who directed the 1989 original but walked away due to a release dispute with Amazon. Ritchie has shown his action chops in films like Wrath of Man and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, as well as his ability to create high-energy movies.
Beall, who previously worked on comic book movies like Aquaman, will bring his writing skills to the project. The new film will be a remake of the 1989 classic, which starred Patrick Swayze and became a massive hit for Amazon Prime Video after its release.
