Google is launching its popular AI research tool, NotebookLM, as a native app on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store, making it easier to access and use the service on-the-go.
NotebookLM, a smart notebook that helps users summarize key points, answer questions, and even turn source material into podcasts, will now be available in two new mobile apps. The apps aim to solve the limitations of using NotebookLM in a browser, including lost internet connections and background audio playback.
The iOS and Android apps support full offline mode, allowing users to download AI-generated audio summaries for later use. They also play in the background even if another app is launched or the screen is locked. Key features include:
* Full-screen audio player with animated waveform
* Chat functionality to ask follow-ups or get clarifications from the AI voices
* Settings and usage stats in the Studio section
* Persistent toolbar with quick access to sources, chat, and settings
To pre-register for the apps, visit the App Store version or Google Play Store version and tap “Pre-order” or “Pre-register.” The apps will be automatically downloaded on May 20, coinciding with the launch of I/O 2025. Users can sign in with their Google account to access the app.
A premium version, NotebookLM Plus, is also available, offering additional features such as customized notebook responses and team collaboration capabilities. With the new native apps, NotebookLM becomes more accessible and mobile, ready to summarize, explain, or entertain users anywhere.
