The number of fatal drug overdoses in Denver and across Colorado has decreased through the first half of 2024, according to recent data.
According to Tyler Coyle, an addiction medicine doctor and associate professor of psychiatry at CU School of Medicine, there could be a few reasons for this decline. One possible explanation is that people who were most likely to experience a fatal overdose have already passed away.
This leaves the medical community analyzing a population of individuals who are still using substances in high-risk settings but are not experiencing as severe outcomes as previously reported.
