Google Prepares Conversational AI Mode for Android Search App

Google is working on a new feature called “AI Mode” for its Android search app, which appears to be a conversational and visual experience. The feature allows users to interact with Google Search through voice input, taking pictures or adding existing ones, and asking follow-up questions.

A recent decompiled version of the Google app’s code (APK Insight) revealed several lines of code that hint at possible features of AI Mode. These include a microphone button for voice input, options to take a picture or add an image from the gallery, and a “Stop loading” button to interrupt responses.

The feature seems to be accessible as a dedicated tab within the app’s bottom bar, which currently has four sections: Home (Google Discover), Search, Saved (bookmarks), and Notifications. Some APK Insight teardowns also suggest that AI Mode might be accessed through the “Threads” entry point, which could show past search conversations.

This new feature appears to be a way for users to get answers by talking directly to Google Search. It lacks a modern voice component, but if AI Mode replaces it, it would provide a concise response with the ability to ask more questions as they arise.
