Miami Sprint Chaos: Albon and Lawson Penalized for Incidents

Alex Albon and Liam Lawson have both lost their points-finishing positions at the Miami sprint due to five-second penalties. The drivers accumulated penalties for different incidents during the event, which saw chaotic conditions in the final laps as the wet track dried out.

Initially, Albon was among the top performers, finishing fourth, while Lawson was seventh. However, both drivers were penalized for safety infractions. Lawson was found “predominantly at fault” for a collision with Fernando Alonso, receiving a five-second penalty and dropping to 13th place. Lawson also received one penalty point on his super licence.

Albon was penalized for exceeding the time limit during the safety car period, earning himself a five-second penalty that pushed him down to 11th place. Despite this, it was made clear that Albon had not done anything maliciously. The stewards noted that track conditions were not ideal and no unsafe situation was created by Albon’s actions.

The revised top eight standings are now: George Russell, Lance Stroll, Yuki Tsunoda, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Pierre Gasly, and the affected drivers.
