At least seven people were killed and 20 injured in bombings in South Sudan’s Fangak county, according to a medical charity. The attacks targeted the last remaining hospital and pharmacy in the area, leaving them destroyed.
A bomb was dropped on the pharmacy, while another drone bomb hit an empty space near Old Fangak town in the Greater Upper Nile region, killing at least seven more people. The attack on the hospital serves over 110,000 residents with severely limited access to healthcare.
The motive behind the attacks is unclear and authorities were unable to comment immediately. International concerns have been raised after the arrest of First Vice President Riek Machar in March on charges related to a potential rebellion, which could lead to renewed conflict.
