Microsoft’s recent Patch Tuesday update, KB5058379, has brought about some unwanted issues for Windows 10 users. Some PCs are now requesting the BitLocker recovery key on startup, a process that was previously triggered only by hardware or BIOS changes.
The problem affects both corporate and private Windows 10 computers, with reports in the US and Germany. Affected users have had to resort to system recovery and restore their OS to a previous point to use their devices again. In some cases, blue screen crashes are also occurring after startup.
While Microsoft has not mentioned these issues on the KB5058379 update support page, experts recommend installing the patch regardless, as it is an important security update. The issue seems to affect Dell, HP, and Lenovo computers running Windows 10 22H2 or 21H2 Enterprise. Users can potentially resolve the issue by disabling Intel Trusted Execution Technology in the BIOS/UEFI settings.
