Israel Escalates Gaza Attacks Amid Trump’s Region Trip

Israel launched dozens of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Friday, killing 108 people, mostly women and children. The strikes came as U.S. President Donald Trump wrapped up a visit to the region, despite hopes that his trip would increase chances for a ceasefire deal or resumption of humanitarian aid.

The attacks were part of a larger operation aimed at pressuring Hamas to release 58 hostages held since October’s attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to escalate pressure on the militant group, warning of more strikes if they don’t comply.

In Gaza, the Health Ministry reported that 31 children and 27 women were killed, with hundreds more wounded. The attacks also targeted two ports in Yemen, killing at least one person and injuring nine.

Israel’s military intercepted missiles fired from Yemen toward Israeli airspace during Trump’s visit. Netanyahu said there will be “more to come” in the war, but did not provide details.

The Gaza blockade, which entered its third month, has exacerbated a humanitarian crisis. Food, fuel, medicine, and other supplies are being blocked, causing widespread shortages.

The United Nations announced that 18 kitchens previously closed due to food shortages reopened after community members shared remaining food stocks. A new humanitarian organization is set to begin operations before the end of the month, but many in the humanitarian community have expressed skepticism about its ability to meet Palestinian needs.

The situation remains dire, with over 3,000 Palestinians killed since Israel broke a ceasefire on March 18. The international community continues to call for a ceasefire and an end to the violence.
