Meta officials have expressed excitement about the company’s new $10 billion data center coming to Richland Parish, Louisiana. The project was made possible by a package of economic development incentives legislation signed into law in 2024.
According to Henry Thornton, Meta Community Development Regional Manager, the data center is part of a larger initiative to support workforce development in the area. “We’re investing $50,000 in Richland Parish Public Schools to train students on software for workforce development,” he said.
The investment includes VR headsets and software implementation to equip students with the latest tools for workforce development. A state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility is also being developed in partnership with the town of Delhi, which will be funded by Meta and supplemented by water rate increases.
Construction of the data center is expected to begin soon, with operations estimated to start in 2028. The project promises to bring significant economic benefits to the region, including new jobs and investments.
