Esiason believes that the level of entitlement among young players and their parents is high, contributing to initial failure and coaching changes. The Bears hired Ben Johnson as new coach after firing Matt Eberflus midseason, putting pressure on Williams. Esiason advised Williams to “keep his mouth shut” and focus on earning his respect by playing well.
This criticism comes with the context that Williams was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He completed 62.5% of passes for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns last season but struggled with six interceptions.
