NASA’s Perseverance rover captured a breathtaking view of Deimos, the smaller moon of Mars, on March 1, 2025. The image shows Deimos shining in the dark sky at 4:27 a.m. local time, with an exposure time of about 52 seconds. To capture this moment, the rover’s left navigation camera used long exposures of up to 3.28 seconds for each shot. However, the low light and prolonged exposure resulted in digital noise, making the image appear hazy.
Among the specks seen in the sky, some are likely cosmic rays, while others may be stars like Regulus and Algieba from the constellation Leo. The Perseverance rover successfully sent this unique image to Earth for analysis and study.
