Foo Fighters Cut Ties with Josh Freese After Brief Tenure

Foo Fighters have parted ways with drummer Josh Freese, who joined the band following Taylor Hawkins’ death in 2023. In a surprise move, Freese announced on Instagram that he was fired from the group, citing that they decided to go in a different direction. Despite being a renowned drummer with experience playing with Nine Inch Nails and Guns N’ Roses, Freese expressed his support for the band’s decision.

Freese had joined Foo Fighters as a full-time member ahead of their tour in May 2023, following his appearances at Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts in 2022. However, after canceling shows backing the Offspring and Danny Elfman, fans speculated that he was being recruited by the band. Throughout his career, Freese has been a member of various bands, including Devo and A Perfect Circle, and has contributed to numerous records with session musicians like Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson.

The news comes as Foo Fighters were set to perform at the Singapore Grand Prix on October 4, following their withdrawal from Soundside Music Festival in September. While some fans may be disappointed by Freese’s departure, others see it as an opportunity for him to explore new creative avenues.
